Hence, the lawyer you will hire needs to know all the information they need to collect before they give their go signal on the partnership. It is the lawyer’s responsibility to investigate and assess the other vendors trustworthiness. It is also his responsibility to create, read and follow through the contract and ensure that all of the information listed to it is fair and within the jurisdiction of the law where you are located.
- How do you deal with confidential information?
As a corporation or company, there is confidential information that must be kept within the management core. Hiring a lawyer means you are opening everything about your company to him/her without hesitations and limitations. With this, it is important that you know how he or she deals with such information. If you are not confident with his or her responses, better look for someone else, as confidentiality and secrecy is highly important for any industry.
- What are the cases you have handled so far?
You may also want to know the cases he/she has previously handled. His years of experience and the kinds and types of cases he handled would give you a better idea on whether he is a good candidate to hire.
Asking on the hardest case he handled and how he dealt with it is also a good follow up question to add.
- What is your rate?
Even if he is working in a firm, it is important that you know his rate. Most firms charge their clients per hour and some charge per contract. You may want to ask it from the lawyer himself so you know that he is on top of his field and not dependent on the firm he is working with.
Corporate law is crucial, critical and complex. It is important that you hire a highly competent lawyer to represent your business. Some companies would get a lawyer when there is already a case filed against them. Hiring a lawyer must be done way before that.
